The Redbirds (40+) shook off an early four-run deficit and came roaring back Wednesday night, hammering the Mustangs 13-4 in a dominant comeback performance.
Jerry Anderson led the offensive charge, collecting three hits and driving in three runs, including a key RBI double in the fifth that helped put the game out of reach. Jerry Gamez was unstoppable at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBIs, while Mark Tierney added two hits and three RBIs to fuel the explosive Redbirds offense.
The Mustangs jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning, but the Redbirds responded immediately, cutting the deficit in half with two runs in the bottom of the frame. They clawed their way back with a six-run fourth inning, highlighted by Gamez and Tierney each delivering two-run singles to seize control of the game.
On the mound, Dustin Harrison settled in after the first inning, tossing five innings of four-hit ball, striking out six and allowing just two earned runs. Anderson came in to close it out with a scoreless sixth inning.
The Redbirds pounded out 14 hits and showed their speed on the bases, swiping eight stolen bags, with Brent Smerczynski, Anderson, and Joe Lowry each recording multiple steals.
Next up, the Redbirds look to keep the momentum rolling as they host the 40+ Chihuahuas next Wednesday.
