Kevin Fought Leads Redbirds (40+) Past Killer Bees

Kevin Fought collected three hits in three at-bats as the Redbirds (40+) defeated the Killer Bees 11-6 on Wednesday at The Parks at Texas Star. Fought singled in the first, third, and fourth innings, providing a key offensive spark.

The Redbirds took an early lead in the top of the first inning with a single by Fought. However, the Killer Bees tied the game at one in the bottom of the first due to a fielding error.

In the top of the third, the Redbirds pulled ahead 4-1 after Brent Smerczynski singled, Chris Cec walked, and Lester Bedford grounded out, each contributing to the score.

The Killer Bees responded with a five-run fourth inning on two hits. Steve Kline drew a walk, Michael Scott hit into a fielder’s choice scoring a run, M. Ribeta grounded out for another run, and two runs scored on errors.

Jerry Anderson earned the win for the Redbirds, pitching one inning with three strikeouts and no hits or runs allowed. Kline took the loss for the Killer Bees, giving up 11 runs on 12 hits over five innings, with three strikeouts and 11 walks. Dustin Harrison started for the Redbirds, allowing five hits and six runs (three earned) over four innings, striking out one and walking two.

The Redbirds collected 12 hits in the game. Smerczynski and Fought each had three hits, while Harrison and Smerczynski drove in three runs apiece. Anderson and Cec also had multiple hits. The Redbirds demonstrated patience at the plate, drawing 11 walks. Bedford, Joe Lowry, and Mark Tierney led with two walks each. Defensively, the Redbirds turned two double plays.

Brad Raaum, Steve Trocchio, Kline, Heline, and N. Armenta each had one hit for the Killer Bees. Scott, Trocchio, and Ribeta each drove in one run.
