Redbirds Dominate Los Viejos in Semifinal Opener
The Dallas Redbirds (40+) opened their semifinal series with authority Tuesday night, overwhelming Los Viejos 12–0 in a five-inning run-rule victory at McInnish Sports Complex. The Redbirds poured on seven runs in a decisive second inning and never looked back, putting themselves one win away from a berth in the championship.
It didn’t take long for the Redbirds to flex their muscle. After opening the game with a four-run first—highlighted by Marc Boggio’s two-run single—the Redbirds sent 11 batters to the plate in the second inning, blowing the game wide open. Lester Bedford and Jerry Anderson drew back-to-back bases-loaded walks, Boggio added a sac fly, Dustin Harrison and Jerry Gamez followed with RBI singles, and Kevin Fought and Mark Tierney capped the onslaught with run-scoring base knocks of their own. When the dust settled, the Redbirds led 11-0 and had full control.
Shawn Onley took the ball and slammed the door on Los Viejos. The right-hander was masterful, scattering just two hits over five shutout innings. He struck out five, walked one, and never allowed a runner to advance past second base.
Offensively, the Redbirds racked up 14 hits, with Harrison, Chris Cec, and Tierney all recording multi-hit games. Boggio did damage in the middle of the lineup with three RBIs despite only one official at-bat. Every player in the starting lineup reached base, showcasing the club’s depth and relentless approach.
The win was clean and commanding. The Redbirds committed just one error, worked five walks, and kept the pressure on from the first pitch to the last. It was the kind of performance championship teams are made of.
Following the blowout, Los Viejos forfeited the remainder of the series due to a string of injuries that left them unable to field a full squad. With the forfeit, the Redbirds now advance to the championship round, well-rested and riding high on momentum.
