Game 1: Gamez and Redbirds Surge Past Diablos

Jerry Gamez came up clutch in Game 1, going a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate and leading the Redbirds to a 6-2 victory over the Diablos on Saturday. Gamez’s three singles kept the pressure on the Diablos’ defense and sparked the Redbirds’ offense, who found their groove in the third inning with back-to-back hits from Steve Stone and Gamez to take a 4-2 lead they never relinquished.

Troy Key pitched a solid game, earning the win by limiting the Diablos to just two runs on five hits over seven innings, despite allowing four walks. Marcos Vidal also chipped in with two hits as the Redbirds swiped five bases to keep the Diablos on their heels throughout.

Game 2: Redbirds Power Through to Claim the Championship

The Redbirds didn’t take their foot off the gas in Game 2, routing the Diablos 11-1 to secure the championship. After falling behind 1-0 on a wild pitch in the first inning, the Redbirds quickly rallied in the second with a flurry of hits. Mark Tierney’s two-run single and a pair of RBI hits by Pete Harrison and Lester Bedford put the Redbirds up 4-1.

The floodgates opened in the sixth inning as the Redbirds put up five more runs, highlighted by a Gamez double and Richard Sullivan’s three-run single. Steve Stone took control on the mound, striking out five while allowing just one run over six innings.

Daron Wilkinson led the offense with a perfect 3-for-3 performance, while Rich Beller, Harrison, and Sullivan each added multiple hits in the Redbirds’ 14-hit barrage. The Redbirds’ defense remained rock-solid, turning two double plays and committing no errors in the field.
