Redbirds (40+) easily dispatched Tigers

The Redbirds (40+) secured a decisive 10-3 victory over the Tigers on Wednesday at The Parks at Texas Star.

The Redbirds jumped to an early lead in the top of the first inning when Jerry Gamez singled, bringing in one run, and Kevin Fought doubled, driving in two more. The second inning saw the Redbirds extend their lead with contributions from Joe Lowry, Jerry Anderson, and Dustin Harrison.

In the third inning, Brent Smerczynski grounded out, adding another run to the Redbirds’ tally. The Redbirds accumulated nine hits throughout the game, with Anderson, Fought, and Gamez each contributing two hits. Anderson led the team in RBIs, going 2-for-4 at the plate and driving in three runs. The team was aggressive on the bases, stealing five bases, with Lowry leading with two steals.

Harrison earned the win for the Redbirds, allowing one hit and one unearned run over one inning, striking out one and walking one. Anderson started on the mound, giving up six hits and two runs (one earned) over five innings, striking out four and walking one.

For the Tigers, Kellner took the loss, pitching two-thirds of an inning with no hits or runs allowed, striking out two and walking none. Kevin Simmons started the game for the Tigers, surrendering eight hits and eight runs (five earned) over three innings, striking out one and walking one.

Dee Mauldin led the Tigers with two hits in two at-bats. Gary Jackson, Mauldin, and Bird each drove in one run for the Tigers, who turned one double play in the game.

The Redbirds will travel to face the Killer Bees in their next game on Wednesday.
