In a commanding display of skill and strategy, the Redbirds (40+) emerged victorious with a resounding 7-2 win over Los Viejos at The Parks at Texas Star. Kevin Fought’s standout performance played a pivotal role in securing the win for the Redbirds.
Los Viejos initially took the lead, scoring a run in the top of the first inning courtesy of Daniel Washington’s single and Bruce Hines’ groundout. However, the Redbirds quickly turned the tide, seizing control of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Fought’s double, along with contributions from Mark Tierney, Steve Stone, and Lester Bedford, propelled the Redbirds to a decisive lead, with each player scoring a run and solidifying their advantage.
On the pitching front, Jerry Gamez delivered a stellar performance, earning the win for the Redbirds with three innings of outstanding relief. Gamez allowed just one hit and zero runs while striking out two and walking one. Meanwhile, Los Viejos’ Gerald Johnson II suffered the loss, surrendering three runs on two hits over two and two-thirds innings.
Chris Cec started strong for the Redbirds, pitching four innings and conceding only two hits and two runs while striking out four. Los Viejos’ Jaime Esquivel started the game but struggled, allowing four runs over three and one-third innings.
The Redbirds’ offense was firing on all cylinders, amassing nine hits in the game. Fought led the charge with two hits, while Cec and Stone each drove in two runs, contributing significantly to the team’s offensive output. Additionally, Joe Lowry, Jerry Anderson, and Stone showcased their speed on the basepaths, stealing multiple bases to keep the pressure on Los Viejos.
Despite their efforts, Los Viejos couldn’t match the Redbirds’ performance. They collected just three hits in the game, with Washington and Hines driving in one run each. Los Viejos managed to turn one double play but struggled to contain the Redbirds’ relentless offense.
